Katie Lynch, Life Coach
About Me
I am someone who loves good food, good company and good scenery! I live for being outdoors as much as possible whether surfing, yoga, paddleboarding, swimming, hiking, growing veg, picnics or a hammock with a book.
I am a passionate advocate for a sustainable and healthy lifestyle connected to our environment and seasons. Before training in Nutritional Medicine and Life Coaching, I worked as an engineer and project manager working on sustainable low-energy building design and offshore renewable energy research.
My partner and I live off-grid at the Old Head of Kinsale with our beautiful husky.
Over the last few years I have been involved in two start-up companies, an outdoor adventure company Wild Goat Adventures, and my current coaching company, A Gut Feeling. And am a member of the EU Climate-KIC Network of Climate Change Coaches.
“Health is a much bigger picture than just our weight or our strength, it is community, environment, passion, delicious food and tuning into our gut feeling”
Sustainability & Nature
I have always preferred being outdoors to indoors and have mostly outdoor hobbies. My friend and I started a company a few years ago called “Wild Goat Adventures” bringing people into Ireland’s most beautiful places as hiking guides and paddle boarding guides providing a healthy delicious picnic along with the chats and scenery.
My partner and I live off-grid near Kinsale and try to live sustainably as much as possible, always researching the most sustainable option for any new purchase or need. It is a constant journey.
In my previous role as an engineer I worked in low energy building design in New Zealand before studying a Renewable Energy MSc. I then worked for 10years as a researcher and project manager on European offshore renewable energy research (wind, wave and tidal energy). As part of that role I was able to attend the UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP22) in Morocco.
I have now merged my old and new roles by being accepted into the Climate Change Coaching Network of the EU Climate-KIC. Where I am able to network and learn from amazing coaches and climate change experts all over Europe.
I continue to work sometimes in the European and Irish Renewable Energy industry through contract work.
Health & Wellbeing
My mum has always been an organic and local food advocate, so this was probably inevitable!
But I came around to it through a personal health issue. After years of burning the candle at both ends between a busy job, and a busy outdoor adventure life including hiking Everest Base Camp and Kilimanjaro on my holidays, I developed an autoimmune diagnosis of hypothyroidism.
This forced me to learn to step back, tune in and listen to my body. I deepened my personal yoga practice and became involved in the Bihar School of Yoga. At the same time I was like a dog with a bone researching supportive practices for autoimmunity and became obsessed with the power of food to support and prevent illness. I eventually quit my old job and went back to study again for a Nutritional Medicine MSc. As my understanding of nutritional science grew, so did my own self-awareness through my yoga practice and I realised how important self agency and self awareness is in long term behaviour change. So I followed this with a PGDip in Coaching before starting A Gut Feeling to support others.
My Philosophy
I believe that true wellbeing lies in self-awareness and a balanced approach to food and lifestyle. Our health and the health of our environment are inter-connected and need to be considered together. Nature provides so many health benefits just from being in it as well as the food, clean air and water it provides.
“Health is a much bigger picture than just our weight or our strength, it is community, environment, passion, delicious food and tuning into our gut feeling.”
